Frequently asked questions
Which regime is better?
The new regime is usually better if your total deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest) are small; the old regime can win if deductions are large. This calculator shows both side by side.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh really tax-free?
Under the new regime for FY 2025-26, the Section 87A rebate eliminates tax for taxable income up to ₹12 lakh (₹12.75L for salaried with standard deduction). Income above that is taxed by slab.
Does this include cess and surcharge?
It includes the 4% health & education cess. Surcharge for incomes above ₹50L is not included.
